Halloween

by Hugh Lindsey

about

This is not an anti-masker song despite the fact that the lyrics in the chorus are "take your mask off, it is not halloween".
While I would like to say that this was all a clever marketing idea, I must admit that it wasn't. I actually wrote this as my marriage came to an end. I found myself feeling completely lied to. I even started questioning if I had been lying to myself.
There is nothing worse than putting on a façade or a "mask" rather, and pretending things are okay.

lyrics

I call my friend, I ask them what did I miss
It all depends on if I really listened
It’s not so clear when I am stuck in my head
I get no answers cause right now all I hear is

Take your mask off
It is not halloween
Maybe you just got use to it
Look at the curtains closed
Why are you still acting
Will you answer honestly

I have this fear,I feel the hole in my chest
And it’s not so clear what even really happened
Am I the victim or the play write of this?

I bust the mirror
Because I’m met with regret
I could have spoke clearer
Would that have had an effect?
I’m a lier or in denial over this?

Take your mask off
It is not halloween
Maybe you just got use to it
Look at the curtains closed
Why are you still acting
Will you answer honestly

I walk around all of the things that you left
Inside our house, I guess you didn’t want them
I start to wonder if I am stupid for this

Take your mask off
It is not halloween
Maybe you just got use to it
Look at the curtains closed
Why are you still acting
Will you answer Honestly
this time

Can I Answer honestly

‘’Melancholia often drives my songwriting, but not because I am inherently sad. I want to work through my pain. I want it to be friends with my happiness. Music is where all of my deepest emotions are allowed to be themselves, creating new space for healing and fullness of life. ... more
