Gentle (demo preview)

about

Here is a one-minute demo of Gentle. This is a song I was working on while in Canada. A few years ago my friend Kevin sent me an instrumental demo of an idea he'd come up with. I fell in love with it immediately, but it took a while before the words started to come out of me for the song. This song has changed drastically from the original instrumental idea that Kevin sent me, but it changed slowly in a gentle kind of way.

While I know this song will mean different things to different people, for me, its meaning is summed up in these two words, Honesty and Transparency.

The honesty to admit very real life issues I've delt with.
Transparency that allows them to be seen and brought into light.

I'm note sure when this song will be out on streaming platforms, but I wanted to share a piece of it with you now.

Much love,
-hugh

lyrics

I wake up
And I fall back to sleep
And I wake up
And I fall back to sleep
How could I
Ever begin to want to brush my teeth

It’s too late
I’ve got so much on my mind
Is it too late?
Have I done run out of time
How could I
Have lost myself or will I find

Lately I’ve been holding concentration
I’ve been having Holy conversations
Ohhhh
Jesus Christ
If you are real then goddamn it show me right

I wake up
I fall back to sleep
I wake up
I fall back to sleep

Take me gentle, when I’m older
Let my children know I’m bolder
Is religion accidental?
Am I a natural sentimental?

Time is friendly
Oh great teacher
Give me lessons
When I’m ready
